A special release brew. 1337 Ale is a throwback recipe from co-founders Bill Covaleski and Ron Barchet’s early days as homebrewers and salutes the legislation that legalized homebrewing.

Trivia: Signed into law in 1978, H.R. 1337 made homebrewed beer for personal or family use exempt from taxation and ignited a movement that led to the birth of the thriving craft beer industry in the USA.

4oz pour is a clear orange amber with a ring of spitty white head. Nose is very pithy, orange peel, a little metal, some cardboard. Flavor is lightly sweet, pithy, heavy dried citrus peel, some carrot. Astringent finish.

Cask version at Winking Lizard’s 6th Annual Real Ale Fest (03/22/14): Amber-colored with a medium off-white head that diminishes gradually. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Hops, citrus and malt in the nose.Medium-bodied with flavors of herbal hops, citrus and toasted malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bomber from Beer Run. Pours a clear amber color, lots of visible carbonation, large foamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of citrus, herbal hops and pale malt. The taste is citrus, pine, tropical hops, pale malts. Medium bodied, lingering fruitiness, moderate carbonation, fairly clean, decent balance. Nice beer.
