Produced in the tradition of 18th Century English brewers who supplied the court of Russia’s Catherine the Great, Old Rasputin seems to develop a cult following wherever it goes. It’s a rich, intense brew with big complex flavors and a warming finish.

The Old Rasputin brand image is a drawing of Rasputin with a phrase in Russian encircling it — A sincere friend is not born instantly.

Bottle from Sugaya. Big dark brown black colour with big thick bubbly golden head. Smells lovely, big roastiness, dark fruits, bit of coffee, spice hot chilli kind of feeling in the background. Taste is nice as well. Roasty bitterness, slightly burnt, dark chocolate. Bit further down there is some fudgy kind of sweetness and burnt toast. Finish is intense and bitter, warming booze lingers on. I like it.

Bottle. Black color, opague. Coffee and loads of licorice in the aroma. Bittersweet flavor, with coffee, roasted malt and lots of licorice. Red berries, leather and espresso in the aftertaste. Tasty, but not perfectly balanced.

35,5 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Drinkhut, Uithoorn. Black with a thin beige head. Roasted malts, molasses, dark fruits aroma, some soy sauce, some coffee/chocolate, some vanilla. Many thing going on here. Taste is medium sweet with a spectaculair medium bitter finish. Body is quite light without being too light if that makes sense; it's all perfectly balanced and really enjoyable.

Bottle. Color: Black, light brown head. Aroma: Roasted malt, coffee, slightly herbal. Taste: Dark roasted malt, coffee, hints of dark chocolate. Moderate sweet and medium bitter. Coffee finish with mocha notes. Hints of ash, soy and vanilla, lquorice. Pretty bitter, compared with other Imperial Stouts. Bit oily and dry mouthfeel. Over medium body, below average carbonation. Really nice one.
