There was just something about growing up as beer drinkers as the craft beer movement was growing. Being in that moment where everything was new and shiny and exciting, queues around the corner from a bottleshop for the latest hype release, texts from mates to say a first pour was happening and you simply had to get back into town to try it, you just had to be there to truly appreciate it.

Whilst craft beer has grown up and (whisper it quietly) joined the mainstream, we wanted to harken back to those days where there was a genuine excitement about new styles and techniques brewers were employing to poke their heads above the crowd.

Toolbox Red is our callback to the wonderful simplicity, but tremendous complexity of the Red Ale; a style that seems to have fallen from the radar in more recent years of haze craze. Half a foot in the new school with two types of Mosaic hop, along with Strata and Citra make this a beautiful love letter to the old school with an eye on nostalgia

440ml can from Polly's Social, Mold. Pours a reddish dark brown with a good off-white head. Smooth, almost creamy mouthfeel, very harmonious red character, fruity autumnal flavours, nicely balanced.. very enjoyable.

Can from House Of Trembling Madness. Hazy amber body with a beige head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of toffee and dried leaves. Flavour of caramel and strawberry. Medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. A solid but unspectacular beer.

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger, as Polly's Toolbox Hoppy Red Ale. Hazy reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. A touch of butterscotch in aroma and flavour, with a decent balance between malts and hops, not too sweet, good bitterness.
