"Funaguchi" is a truly fresh sake which is not subjected to either pasteurization or blending.
Since the draft sake is delicate, we had to solve various problems before we could commercialize it.
With our technology developed through the tradition and the enthusiasm for brewing, we strenuously solved each problem, and after trial and error, we were at last able to commercialize the draft sake in 1972. Funaguchi has an alcohol content of 19% which is slightly higher compared with the average sake.
Being rich yet light in taste, Funaguchi presents slightly different mature tastes as it deepens its maturation in a can, fresh our of the brewery, six months later, and one year later.
Since it was placed in the market in convenient aluminum cans, Funaguchi has been constantly popular and it now has many fans throughout Japan.

200 ml can from Whole Foods, Richmond. As 'Funigashi Nama Genshu Original Gold.' Aroma is fruity, nutty and boozy. Completely clear. No head. Medium sour. With a boozy edge. Fruity. Gluey. Slightly veg umami. Medium bodied. Slick verging on creamy. Flat carbonation..Long warming astringent finish. Actually makes me think of a Barley Wine. I like this.

Can at home. I bought this a couple months ago but got drunk and left it behind on my travels. Lost hope we would be reunited but my travels brought me back and I found my can in a friends fridge awaiting my return. Pours yellowish amd you cam smell the booze as soon as u pop the top. Also some pineapple and marijuana on nose. Tastes of pineapple, cocounut, cedar, rubbing alcohol, rice, and weed. Harsh unpolished palate amd boozy warming. Tastes as expected with packaging.

Year old(?) pull tab can off the shelf at Liquor World in Cambridge. Baby chalice.
Clear, with a slighty yellow/straw tint.

Dried pineapple, rose water, plastic candy, Play-Doh. I’m anticipating something creamy.

Initial draw is sweet like flat Seven Up, quickly fusing with a melon-y/minty herbal liqueur of sorts. Hydrogen Peroxide. It finishes with a dry & itchy grass-like bitterness.

Consistency is a bit thick(nearly chewy), & feels a bit stronger then the listed 19%. Though it was cold enough that it didn’t quite burn till it got all the way down.

Still trying to get my legs steady while rating sake.
