The Duck-Rabbator Dopplebock is a powerfully malty German-style lager. The malty/grainy flavors so dominate this beer, it’s like a whole loaf of bread in every glass! Is it a beverage or is it a meal? It’s both.

Leans heavily into the toffee-caramel sweetness of the style, loaded with dried fig and date backed up by hints of molasses and black cherry. Very Americanized doppelbock, for sure, but lacks the needed hoppy dryness and minerality to offset the onslaught of sugary dark malt notes. Just a heavy, sweet beer, man, a bit too comfortable with being unyielding in its sweetness for me. A four-ounce pour? I'm probably in love. But a full twelve ounces is pushing my limits.

Bottle from Wine Warehouse. Pours into my Indians pint glass (Go Tribe, game 3!) dark brown, possibly slightly murky - hard to tell due to darkness - with a small beige head. Aroma is roasted bitter malt, caramel, grass. Flavor is toasted caramel malt, grasses, molasses, milk chocolate, alcohol, tiny hint of cola.

Pour is a thick, murky syurpy brown with no head at all. Aroma is a nice brown sugar covered plum with some raison and treacle. Flavor is a nice pumpernickel black bread, dark fruit and toffee. Like a liquid tootsie roll. Very rich and nuanced with multiple flavors playing over each other. I have not checked my ratings but this has to be the best dopplebock I’ve ever had. So rich with dark fruit and brown sugar.
