Reviewed from notes.
Can to tulip.
Appearance: burnt orange to gold color with a two finger white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: lemon zest, some white bread, funky character, wet basement, tart character, subtle floral and light Brett
Flavor: wraps up the prior noted aromas to a fair funky tart to lemon zesty quality; finishes crisp, bready and funky
Texture: light to medium bodied, semi-sessionable; some smoothness but also a little bit of zesty twang from the lemon acting assertively on the tongue (very inoffensive, just noticeable)
Overall: nicely done saison to me and I would welcome again.

Pours deep hazy gold into a tulip. Bright white micro head with good retention recedes to coat surface. Sweet sourdough and funky citrus aromas. Crisp with banana, clove and funky yeast upfront turning to pith and peel in the lasting finish.

Some citrus and a little orange zest, but really not much to this one. Pour murky orange with ok head, looks more like a hazy IPA than a saison. Light hay bitterness in the finish. Tap at brewery.

A hazed golden amber saison with a thin white head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with light candy sugar, light curacao, light Brett, light lactic notes, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with light Brett, light lactic notes, very nice. On tap at L'autre oeil.

The Sovereign DC: pours golden with a white head. Aroma is saison yeast, a few fleurs, light spice, Belgian hops. Taste is slightly sweet. Quite dry. Subtle bitter finish. Lingering hoppy aftertaste.

Draught at Row 34, 7/14/16.
Good clarity to this brass-golden-apricot colored beer. White head atop is small but shows modest retention.
Black and white pepper combine with soft, plastery house character. Rich in minerals, it gains a good, grainy cereal character as strong herbal and grassy hops perk up on the end. Some nuttiness, soft fruit esters (minimal) and just tons of enjoyable pepperiness. Maybe some passing dough-like character, as others have noted, but I don’t think it disrupts the force of what’s going on here, namely a very grainy-herbal-peppery thing that seems very appropriate as a Spring saison.
Soft, tight carbonation and a wheat and grain-like texture that has light whitebread and dough. Vanilla-honey sugars and plentiful herbal and peppery hops assert themselves, creating an easy balance. Maybe a bit of a surplus of grass and cereal grain on the finish, but the plastery yeast and peppery-herbal hop notes are enjoyable for sure. Very light and understated, as usual, from Oxbow.

On tap at Oxbow, Portland. An unclear, dark golden beer topped by a dense, off-white, finger-thick head. Fruity, citrusy and lightly malty aroma with hints of peaches. It’s medium bodied and soft, with some bitterness in the mouth. Fruity, citrusy flavor with some pale malts in the back. Lasting, dry finish. Straightforward and delicious. 150609
