Penn Quarter Porter was our first in a line of draft and 22oz bomber limited-release beers, and it’s a robust porter! In the way that The Public™ is on the line between a pale ale and an IPA, this warming brew tiptoes the line between a porter and a stout – perfect for the cooler months in DC, but at a crushable 5.5% this porter is great all year round. With Jerkface Garlic Chili Jerky added.

On cask at Big Hunt DC. Pours a watery, mostly black with some fast fading head. Nose is interesting, the porter is definitely there, toast, malt, mild roast, a meaty character too, some roast green pepper. Flavor has some meaty, chili notes, some soy, a little umami, malt, toast. Oily finish. Interesting. Odd, but also a little successful.

Cask. Opaque dark brown color, medium tan head. Aroma has peppers on a background of dark chocolate and coffee. Taste has mild pepper flesh and roast. Body is a bit thinner than the base. OK.

4 oz pour on cask at The Big Hunt. Dark brown with light tan head. Aromas of chocolate, light spice. Tastes of soy sauce, chocolate, light chili. Low carbonation. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Doesn’t work too well for me.
