Collaboration between Tempest and Emperor's is finally upon us. More than a stout, this is beer from another galaxy...Aggresively loaded with chocolate and roasted malts, the base stout spent the best part of a year in Bluegrass bourbon barrels, where the oak, vanilla and bourbon warmth perfectly balanced the roast bitterness and residual sweetness of the stout. As if it wasn't indulgent and complex enough, we rounded things off with a good, good amount of sticky Zahidi date syrup.

Can from the brewery taproom. Pours black with a thick tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, coconut, vanilla, a little burnt wood, and some dates. Taste is sweet, sticky date, chocolate cake, bourbon. Bit boozy, but good.

Can direct from Tempest. It pours darkest brown to black with a dark tan - brown head. The aroma is rich and intoxicating, bitter - sweet, dark roasted malt, umami, plenty of dark and dried fruits, date, prune, raisin, chocolate gateaux, bourbon soaked oak, vanilla and liquorice allsorts. The taste is slick, thiccccc, oily, bitter - sweet, dark roasted malt, sticky, jammy, treacle, raisin, date, fruit cake, bourbon soaked oak, umami, liquorice, liquorice allsorts, toasty spice, burnt toast, chewy and tannin with a drying, dark roasted malt. Fulsome body and average carbonation. Rich, toothy and indulgent. A big punchy number. Maybe a touch too sweet for me, but fun to try.

330ml can.  Pours jet black with a medium head.  Aroma is strong bourbon, dark chocolate, alcohol and a little date.  Taste has sticky date to start, with dark chocolate and bourbon on the finish.

330ml can. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of bourbon, chocolate, dates. Taste is very rich, sweet, bourbon and date syrup dominate, chocolate, oak, some roast, alcohol warmth. Full bodied, smooth, syrupy. Bit too sweet for me, but it's as described.
