Abbaye des Rocs (9% ABV) is a pure malt beer with no added sugar. The harmony of flavours is directly linked to its double fermentation process, the precise quantities of malt used (7 types). It is a majestic, papal, dark ruby red colour. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It is enjoyed like a red wine, whose colour it resembles, but without the tannin. It develops a very powerful aroma with sweet notes. It confirms the initial impression in the mouth, although now enveloped by a deep bitterness, yet one that is well balanced and with a certain fruitiness. It is released fully on the palate, developing an impressive density of flavour. There are notes of burnt wood, but although this beer includes a roasted malt in its ingredients, this does not come through in the aroma. The aftertaste is very long thanks to its dense and creamy development whilst in the mouth. The bitterness and sweetness (even though no sugar is added) rival one another magnificently, but come out as equals, to the great satisfaction of the taster.
In 2019 the new 1979 label was introduced to commemorate the 40th jubilee of the brewery.

Aus der Flasche 2015-03 getrunken. Oh ja hier treffen eine deutliche Süße mit leichter Honignote und ein recht wuchtigen, malzigen Körper am Gaumen aufeinander. Super Lecker und ein Bier mit Potential für ein längere Lagerung.

Brune was delivered to me by a retail shipper out of Belgium, super pleased to have the chance to try it. 330 ml and best by 9/7/20 on the label. I'm using my Straffe Hendrik glass to sample this one, I lift the lid and pour to see a pecan brown body and an eggshell colored head. The foam rapidly dissipates but there's a steady stream of effervescence. The scent, hey, top level, caramel, wheat bread and dates. A taste, nice indeed, hard candy, grain, bark, malt and yeast and figs. I will linger with this one. A wealth of riches.

Bière 33 cl ramenée de chez Market Boissons à Wattignies. La bouteille n'a pas beaucoup d'allure, étiquette assez vieillotte. Au service, robe brune sombre à reflets rouge, belle mousse brune épaisse. Nez de caramel, d’épices, de fruits noirs. En bouche, notes toastées, pruneau, fruits noirs, sucrées. Une bière belge bien équilibrée. A retester pour confirmer mon avis.

Bottle (from notes taken at Delirium Cafe). Pours hazy reddish dark amber with large foamy white head, fruity caramel aroma, medium carbonation, medium bitter caramel malt taste with dried fruits, toffee, smooth body, long finish. Complex and flavorful.

Sandy coloured bubbly head stayed well on a dark chestnut body with lots of particulates floating around. Chocolate, dark spirits, dark berry, prune & demerara aroma. Medium to full bodied, silky smooth & oily with a faint tingle down the throat & a clean finish. Sweet berry, chocolate, orange, Christmas cake, brown sugar, malt & jam tastes with long fruity finish.
