We've been lucky to get the chance to brew with Anchovy on a few beers over the last couple of years. To really put it through its paces, we decided to brew our first ever Bright IPA, a style we believe perfectly showcases its unique flavour profile.

Anchovy? It's an experimental variety bred by Segal Ranch, a third-generation family hop farm in Yakima, Washington, and named by Matt and Brian from Fast Fashion who sponsored the initial acreage. Be confident in the knowledge that it tastes absolutely nothing like fish. We're getting watermelon sweets, lemon zest, candy sticks, some subtle coconut and a sprinkle of spruce in the finish.

Tight white head on an unclear dull golden coloured body.
Minimal stone fruit aroma.
Medium bodied, foamy cloying & sticky.
Watermelon, earthy, boiled sweets & herbal tastes with a light malt backbone & sweet finish.
Deece but a bit too sweet.

Can from Drankenhandel Leiden. Fruity hop with some pine, malt, grapefruit, ripe orange. Good bitterness, but also a bit sweeter than I like. Medium body. Overall solid IPA.

Panda from Colin. Cheers. Hazy-opaque pale rusty orange. Aroma has pineapple with tart citrus before sweeter citrus also makes an appearance. Flavourwise it got a light-medium bitterness over a pool of sugary juice with malty depths. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Nice.

440ml can. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma of candied berries and pick n mix sweets. Taste is similar, sweet candied berry fruits, raspberry, strawberry, piney resin, bit of a syrupy note, lacks the bitterness of a true westie. Medium bodied.
Good stuff just a shame about the sweetness. Hoping Track stick to proper WC IPAs now.

Can at home, from HOTM online, 12/02/2026.
Clear golden topped with a lasting white head ... a good looking bier.
Nose is mixed tropicana, light pine, grass, guava, faint stone fruit.
Taste comprises orange pith, peach, pine resin, grass, mandarin.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close splashed with juicy hop bitterness.
Tidy IPA.

Can from House Of Trembling Madness. Clear golden body with a thick off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, salted lime and mint. Flavour of basil and liquorice root. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. An interesting and delicious IPA.

Can. Bright clear gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Pretty much a clear gold beer, small bubbly pale cream colour head. Airy palate, a very mild, decent fine minerally carbonation. Light soft pale malts, a light creamy sweetness. Anchovy hops bring soft cooling pine and fair nip of hop spice. Coconut. Slightly tangy stone fruits with a nice tangy lemon streak running through. A mix of ripe lemon and bright but, not acidic lemon. Some candyish berry fruits on the back end, candy raspberry clear and a little strawberry and more. Light hop spicy finish. Fab! This IPA delivers this new hop with aplomb, lays out its character for all to see and, if you are like me, appreciate it immensely. New hops are the last remaining frontier of the craft beer wave that started all those years ago.

On tap at Track taproom in Manchester. A golden/amber coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Hoppy, orange, grapefruit, pine taste/aroma. Decent enough IPA with a pleasant sweetness.
