Wild Horse Porter re-joins us as a limited edition draft-only Brewmaster’s Reserve release. The full Brett fermentation strikes fast as hay-forward funk wafts from the glass, preceding flavors of dark chocolate, coffee, fresh fruit and caramel. It’s a complex, full-bodied beer that is still approachable to even those unfamiliar with Brettanomyces. When you encounter it, take your chance to ride on the wild side with us. Wild Horse Porter won’t be around for long.

Bottle sample @ BBB. Pours tiny hazy blackish brown with a big frothy mocha head that slowly dissipates while leaving some sparse thick trace on the glass while slowly dissipating. Smell is roasty and malty with roasted malts, rye bread, toasted cereal, dusty rye meal, dark roast coffee, cocoa powder, liquorice, black pepper corns, moist soil, barnyard and hints of leather and burnt raisins. Taste is very tiny sour, bitter, malty and tiny funky. Mouthfeel is soft, dry, very tiny tart and medium bodied. Finish is bitter with roasted malts, dark rye bread, burnt cereal, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice, leather, moist soil, barnyard and hints of sour cherries. Great malt base with light funk without getting too farmhousy and phenolic. High drinkability…

Keg at Brewdog Shepherds Bush, London. A black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Roasty, malty, berry fruit aroma. Tastes similar, roasty, malty, chocolate, berry fruit, slightly sour. Interesting porter that improved as it went on.

Growler, listed as 6.5%. Black with a lovely tan head. Aroma of mild roast, apples, mocha, the barn. Very soft, enveloping texture. Sweet mocha with apples and some other rather blousy fruit flavours. Some spices - cloves, star anise - and pasture. Low bitterness. Very refreshing. Unfocused fruit and maybe a bit over the top with the barnyard, but this has a hell of a lot going for it.

Sample at Daily Growler UA. Pours an opaque brown-black color with a medium foamy khaki head that diminishes steady to a film. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, funky fruit and chocolate. Medium body with flavors of roast malt, funky yeast, leather and dark chocolate. The finish is malty up front with a mildly sour fruit aftertaste. Interesting beer, pretty good overall.
