22 oz bottle. Poured a dark color with small tan head. Aroma was caramel, sweet roasted notes as well. Chocolate notes, caramel, hops, but a bit too malty.

12oz shorty bottle. Opaque, glowing burgundy-brown chocolate color. Soapy beige head. I think American Strong Ale is a way more appropriate categorization for this beer. I always appreciate when a brewer comes up with an interesting Winter Beer, not a OSA knockoff, or some overloaded Barleywine. This one remains perfectly sessionable, with some added malty depth perfect for the winter months. Not much hop character to speak of. Chocolate and caramel malt tones, sort of watery. Right on.

Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours dark brown with a foamy/creamy tan head. Aroma is much like the harsh roast malt of a brown ale, though smoother. Medium body with near creamy carbonation. Flavor is mildly spicey/evergreeny/vegy with some smooth dark roast malt. Drinks pretty well. Very well. Finish is smooth, well balanced and has noticeable bitter. Though it does turn a bit veg.

Deep brown coloured body, slightly muddy with a super-thin tan head. Aroma of nuts, roasted malt, a bit of coffee and some more odd pit fruits. Light-bodied; Strong coffee and roasted malt flavours come through with nuts, pecans and a touch of figs. Aftertaste shows mostly malt with a light smokey flavour in addition to a very light acidic taste. Overall, a good porter - fairly simplistic and very mild in comparison to others. I’d say to pass on this, but if you can’t find it often, then give it a shot. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from BottleWorks in Seattle, Washington on 11-November-2008, sampled on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 02-May-2009.

Bottle pours a dark redish brown with sandy colored head and traces of lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts and a slight sour note. Like a Porter. Flavor is a bit astringent, roasted and the ABV is apparent but not overpowering. LIvely carbomation. No stlye listed but either a porter or a dark brown ale. Not bad.
