As part of our Burns celebrations, we’ve brewed a few collabs with Scottish brewers who have breweries elsewhere.
We had Brian from Northern Monk come home to Scotland to make this hybrid between the classic malt forward beers of Scotland and Yorkshire.

Starting with a smooth malt-rich base, we fermented this Auld Ale in whisky barrels before an extended conditioning. A warming, complex, and historically resonant ale!

23/5/2025. Can bought at Bacchanalia - Mill Road
Store in Cambridge. Train beer home take 2. And one I enjoyed much more. Good pour. Sweet, malty, toffee, bready, whisky cake, fruit cake, dried fruits. Quite sweet, mellow bitterness. Decent body. Good finisher.

Can direct from Newbarns. It pours clear deep reddish - brown with a medium fluffy off-white head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, rich, malt - driven, loads of dried fruits, raisin, date, touch of dried orange, toasted fruit cake, brown bread, malt loaf, wood, distant pipe tobacco, old leather sofa, custard and bread & butter pudding. The taste is initially dry, touch of earthy bitterness, woody, sappy, resinous, oily, slick, leather, light tannin, plenty of dried fruits and berries, raisin, sultana, crunchy cherry, date, prune, toasted fruit cake, tangy tangy, cacao nibs and a dusting of coffee. Finish is drying, woody and toothy. Medium+ body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. This is right up my street. Rich and robust with a lovely depth of flavour. Hot damn.
