Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a little ruby and copper tint and a nice, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of bright english hops, a ton of pit fruits, some yeast and basement must and a lot of deep nuts and caramelised sugars. Full-bodied; Strong pit fruit flavours with a lot of nuts and earth, some mellow yeast and a touch of cherries with a light hop note at the very end. Aftertaste shows a good blend of malt and hops with a lot of earth and nuts, some pit fruits and a touch of deep bitterness. Overall, a nice strong ale with some nutty and earthy flavours and a good deal of bitterness. I sampled this pint on draught at Ironhorse Tap Room in Washington, DC on 23-December-2013.

4oz sample at Churchkey’s 3 Stars 1st Anniversary event. Pours a hazy, caramel amber with one ring of clumpy, beige head. Nose is a mix of booze, chocolate, tropical fruit, caramel, pear. Boozy flavor, can sugar, rum, spice, nail polish, malt, caramel, a little vanilla. Full, spicy finish. A little hot. Seems a bit out of proportion.

Pizzeria Paradiso, Georgetown tap ($6): Pours a murky brownish color with a small head. Aroma is a whole bunch of different fruit flavors. Taste is pretty much dates, plums, and whatever other similar such fruits beer vaguely tastes like, along with plenty of malt. There is very little hop character, as this beer is a mostly a malt monster. Easy to drink and alcohol is well-covered although there is a hint of booze in the aroma.

Growler at DC tasting. Red-amber, thick beige head. Aggressively sweet, los of booze soaked dark fruit. Raisin, plum, prune. A sort of odd creature, piny sticky finish, but not so much hop character. OK. Mellow aroma.

Growler shared by Travlr. Thanks! Poured a ruby red color, with a wispy white head. Aroma is toffee, caramel notes, some additional sweetness in there. Creamy toffee notes, caramel notes. Alcohol is a bit noticeable, but expected considering 10.2%. Very nice.
