Deep robust brown coloured body with a cola coloured glow at the bottom and a thinnish, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of grain, alcohol, wheat, yeast, bread, pit fruits and bunches of raisins - nice. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong robust roasty malt flavours at first show with a good deal of stone fruit, some peat and earthy notes and quite a bit of alcohol on the end. Aftertaste shows some caramel and caster sugar, some more fruit - raisins, prunes and grapes and a very earthy and almost metallic twang at the end. Overall, a nice doppelbock with a good character, pleasant complexity and smooth profile that shows well, but not amazing or superlative. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Crystal City Wine Shop in Arlington, Virginia on 28-April-2015 for US$2,79 sampled at home in Washington on 02-June-2015.

Some roast malt with that light carameled aroma characteristic of the style. Pours black with big initial mocha head and good lacing. Finish is mostly bitter with a drop of sweetness. Some chocolate. Not bad, and quite drinkable. Bottle from Glen’s Garden Market.

Owl Farm, Brooklyn tap: Pours brownish with an off-white head. Aroma is dark fruit, plenty of heavy malt, some caramel, no booze. Taste is sweet, but not too sweet. Not the most complex beverage in the world, but has more than some other macro doppelbocks. Easy to drink for the high booze content.

12oz bottle pours a watery translucent deep amber with some frothy, off white head. Nose has nougat, marzipan, yeast, dried fruits, mild candy. Flavor follows right along, lightly bready, yeasty, marzipan, yeast, raisin, some prune, a little lemon, some cheap wine. Full bodied.
