A massive dose of Morello cherries gives a rich red hue, and complemented by the cherry pie notes courtesy Brett Brux, this rich, complex-yet-dry sour beer delivers layers of fruit and funk. Aged for a year in used French Oak wine barrels. Cellarable.

Note: different recipe to the prior releases (-2012), which wasn't barrel-aged.

22oz shared with Alex at Andrey's. Vintage 2014, 6.5+ years old, khe-khe. Appearance: super dark purple with a beige head. Aroma: quite nice sour cherries. Taste: along the same lines, sweet and sour, maybe oxydized, some bready notes. Overall: pretty good for 6.5+ years old one.

The sour cherries taste very cranberry-like to me. I'm a little surprised how highly it's rated consider how fruity it is, and the sourness is very mild. Bottle from BC ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very dark, just some maroon. Aroma of cherries, prunes, some oxidation. light foot. Some residual sweetness, cherry pits, moderately sour, with strong oak character in the finish, even harsh if possible. Interesting, but definitively declining.

Cloudy dark amber color with small compact head. Very nice cherry and cherry pit aroma, and almost biscuity, with some Brett and pedio; wonderful. Smooth mouthfeel moderately sweet, with strong Morello cherry flavor, some tannins, moderate sourness.
Excellent.

The new, sour Belle Royale has a rich bloody cherry character. Rich cherry and wood character, with a touch of lacto. Rich woody, cherryish, touch of balsamic but just a little, dash of lactic. Straightforward elements but they’re complex and balanced. The alcohol comes in late.

Bottle: Poured a deep reddish color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of intense cherry notes with some tart flavours and some light sweet undertones. Taste is a wonderful mix between some intense cherry notes with some tart notes that are well a balanced against some residual sugar notes. Oak and light vinous notes are also noticeable. Body is quite full with limited filtration. Very enjoyable beer which is almost a mix between Rodenbach and New Glarus.

Bottle shared by Christer @ the RBWG 2014 grand tasting, thanks! Pours a hazy deep amber red with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a rich cherry pie note with a bit of tartness and acid growing. Flavor has lots of cherry pie notes as well with a hint of spice and a light funkiness.
