On the cold weather Pgh tour of winter 2015 spring at bocktown robinson, part 2. Big and black. No head. Has a medium ips aroma. Wew, first taste is a big kick if IPA. Covers most all aspects of darkness. Yes, the black beer taste attributes are well hiddne. If you closed yoru eyes you’s never know this is a dark beer. Big heavily hopped kick in the face BS.

A friend from work pick me up this 12 oz. bottle @ Ryan and Casey’s in Western, MA. Thin ring of white head that didn’t last on a dark ruby pour Aroma is light pine, black top tar and a light medical note.
Flavor is pine right at the fore front. Thin body with chocolate and old espresso bean in the back end with weak charred resin finish. Low hop bitterness with pine creeping in. Watery texture hurts the overall feel of this brew.
Overall, this still drinks really well when you consider the high ABV. A touch of alcohol in the finish. Not bad in any way but could benefit from a slightly fuller body.

Bottle split at Dadsgiving, by zdk I think - cheers, 24/11/13. Dark mahogony brown with a moderate tan head. Nose is dank hops, pine, earthy cocoa waftings, bitter tropicals and grapefruit dipped straw. Taste comprises bitter grapefruit, earthy cocoa, light roastings, dank hops, pine. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, sweetish finale with light roast undertones and a tropical tang off. Solid CDA - doesn’t dispay the 9.5% at all !

Received in a trade; it pours a dark black colored body with a film of a white head and sliding lacing; the aroma has some roasty, yet somewhat bitter citrusy hops in the beginning that end up balancing it a bit; the flavoring is mainly bitter and somewhat roasty as it goes down, slight coffee to hops aftertaste, dry bitter finish, easy on the palate - perhaps, but not really, overall: pretty good American Black Ale, well worthy of many more pours but I guess I’ll just have to move back east or trade for more

Pours deep mahogany-tinged black into a shaker. Mocha head with little retention crackles and recedes to skim surface. Sweet chocolate and citrus aromas. Thin with chocolate and espresso front to back and into the lasting charred resin finish. abv nowhere to be seen.
