Dank u wel for all the help, Gast! It’s been very relevant! An expansive Flanders-esque blend as complex, assertive, an infectious as its namesake - although quite a bit more acidic and less injury prone. Proost!
67% ale aged in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels, 17% ale aged in bourbon barrels, 8% ale aged in rum barrels, & 8% ale aged in Chardonnay barrels.

35cl Bottle at Sloshfest. 2012, 9.39% ABV. Clear brown colour, off-white head. Aroma of balsamic vinegar, the sour one, not the sweet stuff, acid, funk, wood. Flavour is very sour, vinegar, balsamic vinegar, a little burnt caramel sweetness, toffee, wood, light oak, very sour finish. Medium-bodied. I found this undrinkable, and way too sour for a Flemish brown/Flanders Red.

Review Eight Hundred! Received this in a trade from Dak. Enjoyed at 60 Degrees F in a wine glass.
A - Poured a raisin dark brown. 1 finger reddish brown head produced but faded instantly. It’s a very low carbonation, still beer.
S - I get a red balsamic vinegar up front. This is followed by cherries and cranberry juice.
T - Loads of bitter tannins up front. The back of my throat sort of chokes on the amount of acetic acids in this beer. It makes me choke because, while tasting, I’m trying to move the beer around on my tongue and the acidity is way too much. At the finish, I get oak, cherries and more red wine notes.
M - Light body, light carbonation. Not a lot going on with mouth feel and I can’t pick up the rum, bourbon or chardonnay at all.
O - This is the most vinegar heavy flanders red I’ve ever had. It’s disappointingly high acid profile on par with drinking balsamic vinegar it’s just too much. A bummer and nothing like any other flanders I’ve had.

Pours a clear garnet amber with some spitty, white head. Nose is grassy, herbal, cherries, wood, vinegar. Sweet and tart flavor, berries, cherries, light vinegar. Medium, tart and acetic finish. Pretty nice with some good cherry/berry flavors.

Sample at Falling Rock Beer Tasting with Dr. Bill on 10/13/2012. This brew pours a dark brown color with a medium tan head that dissipates slowly. Small patchy lacing. Aroma of charred malt, oak and fruit. Medium to full body with a moderately sour fruit character and notes of bourbon, vanilla and burnt malt. The finish is vinous and oaky. Good brew.

Bottles in Denver at GABF 2012. A murky red/brown color with a small white head. A big sour fruity nose, some wood. The flavor is big cherries, vanilla, vinous, tart at times, lingers with woody dry finishes. Nice.

Bottle at Stone Sourfest. Pours with a murky brown hued body followed by a small tan ring. Aromas are of brown sugar, burnt flan, caramelized melanoidins, alcohol, light barrel, vinous, rum. Flavors are boozy and malty, medium acidity. Mostly acetic acid. Vinous. Good complexity overall though. Medium esters. Lively bubbles, boozy finish with some tannin.

Bottle @ home. Pours a dark brown/plum appearance that’s fairly clear with a small, disappearing, light brown head. Little to no head retention. Vinegar, black cherries, plum, and oaky tannins are most prevalent in the nose, additionally with notes of vanilla, cranberries, acetic acid, and blackberries. Initially notes of red wine, oak, and rich vinegar followed by a more puckering berry (blackberry, cranberry), light bourbon, vanilla, woody, leather, caramel flavors. Finishes quite puckering, sour, and dry. Really a pretty nice take on an Oud Bruin albeit a bit strong on the alcohol side.
