This creamy and spicy farmhouse ale has been making a Grand Ole splash since it hit the beer scene. The Thai and traditional sweet basil, sourced from Bloomsbury Farms, and rye malts take center stage; offering complexity while remaining approachable. One can taste a variety of notes, with tones of pepper and fennel on the nose and palate.

Rachel brought this one back from a trip to TN.++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown brown bottle this beer poured a bright golden color with lots of small chunks and a large orange-white head that left good lacing. The aroma was yeasty with pepper, orange, mustiness and perfume. The flavor was musty and yeasty with perfume, basil, pepper and bread. Long finish. Medium body.

On tap at Tennessee Brew Works, pours a clear golden with a small beige head. Aroma brings out fresh basil notes upfront, light pepper and saison yeast. Flavour is along the same lines, with pepper, basil and spicy Belgian saison yeast. Spicy and herbal on the finish. Nicely done.

On tap at GABF 16'. Pours hazy orange gold with frothy white head. The aroma is strong basil and bready malt. Thin body, rye, licorice, basil, light finish, good.

Tap @ Tennessee Brew Works, Nashville. The basil is very stated and lingers long in its aftertaste.

A tad on the sweet side for a Saison, with strong notes of red apple sweetness and a slight banana undertone. Rye adds a bitter spiciness to the back end, and the Thai basil blooms as the beer warms. Yeasty finish is tempered by the booziness, but the herbaceous fade adds a nice touch. Not pretty enough for a Saison, though, lacking much head or lace, and the nose is straight corn and wheat, no basil apparent. Feels a bit soft for a Saision as well. Still, not a bad beer overall.

Draft at Barleys in Knoxville. Hazy golden color, small white head. Aroma if herbs and meadows. Taste has spice and light funk. Interesting.
