An interesting update to plain old IPAs, Expedition IPA calls forth a blend of citrus and white wine hop flavors that temper a clean lightly malted grain background. Certain to satisfy the long time IPA lover, this beer avoids the hop punch associated with many IPAs.

Deep clear copper and light brown coloured body with a ridiculously large off-white, tan and almost brown head that is huge and very soapy, but fades very quickly. In fact, this almost exploded upon opening and guzzles out very quickly until pouring and leaving space in the can. Aroma of malt, nuts, earth, caramelised sugars and a plentiful amount of herbal and grassy notes without any real bitterness and definitely no fruit notes. Medium-bodied; Very strong malt, peat, earth, nutty and especially caramel flavours are by far the strongest with a lot of alcohol and perfumey and grassy bitterness right behind, with a heavy floral finish that shows some hop notes, but some odd varietals and perhaps Simcoe or Tomahawk, as those two I don't typically enjoy. Aftertaste is dry, floral, grassy and quite malty and dense with a good peated malt note that is strong, but at least shows some character. Overall, a dense and powerful pale that shows more of an English bitter or APA at most and far removed from IPAs in general and especially the IPAs of now. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from from Total Wine in Manassas, Virginia on 12-August-2020 for US$1,99 sampled at my house here in Washington on 14-September-2020.

Draft at Virginia IPA Challenge at Capital Alehouse Harrisonburg VA: Grapefruit and lemon nose. Clear amber, medium head. Grapefruit, maraschino cherries, pineapple. Slightly vegetal, ash finish. Medium body, easy carbonation. Good recipe, flawed execution.

Keg at the VA Craft Brewers Festival. Hazy orange, thin head, poor retention. Aroma of citrus hops and pale malt. The taste is citrus hops, vanilla, pale malt. Thin bodied, simple.

Not bad, and definitely the best beer I’ve tried from these guys. Amber pour with good head and lacing. Light malt here, with some citrus and light pine. Light bitter finish with some sweetness. Tap at brewpub.

Draft at the source. Poured a light copper color with a slight haze, white head - some nice lacing on edges. Aroma was citrus juice notes, some nice light sweet biscuit grain notes in there too. Decent IPA. Nice balance between the two - not too hoppy, but not malt forward. Malt character tasted fresh, juicy. Alcohol was also just right - making it easy drinking (this has less alcohol than their pale ale!).
