Saranac Octoberfest is a rich flavorful lager. We use imported two-row and crystal malt and balance it with the pleasant bitterness of Saaz and Tettang hops.

Favonian sweet aroma. Parethesian carbonation. Initially taste is euphonious but that morphs int medium low envenom. A tovarich at times. Easy to drink and seems just as good as any other fest. The sockdolager has a mild lingering industrial bite that is well controlled and not over the top.

Weak aroma of grain. Light and clear amber, thicker than expected yellow head. Watery , metallic, and bitter, tastes of barley and something else that made me gag. It was almost moldy. Tin finish. This was terrible.

Bottle. Slightly sweet malt aroma. Medium amber color with small head. Malt and strong hops flavor - little sweetness. A surprisingly strong brew for Matt’s - a very nice beer.

This OKtoberfest pours a brownish amber with a small head. Smells of coppery malts. Tastes of malty metallic mush. Plain, ordinary, and nothing special, like many of the Saranac beers (though they do have a few that really make checking them out worthwhile).

A decent enough beer but with an obvious crystal, rather than Munich or Vienna malts, this misses the Ofest mark. Darkish amber color, lacking a respectable head. Aroma caramelly, flavor same, but the stronger juicier melanoidins absent. Clean, easy finish. Well constructed, just call it an amber lager and leave it at that.

Clear amber coloured body with copper and orange highlights. No head at all. Aroma of light german hops with very subtle malt and almost nothing else. Light-bodied; Metallic, mild malt tastes with some light hops and a few drops of caster sugar. Overall, a very bad beer for the style, even for Sary’s standards. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle a few months after October, on 28-December-2004, purchased from Beers of the World in Rochester, New York.

Octoberfests are not a preferred style for me but I like to try new things whenever possible. Sampled from a 12 oz bottle this beer poured a caramel color with a medium sized tan head. There was a sweet and malty aroma. The flavor was malty and fairly sweet with a nice mild hop finish. A nice quaffable brew.

(on tap at brewery) Light brown with foamy white head. Light malt aroma. Sweet caramel with intense butterscotch/DMS and with very little hops in finish.
