Red Oak is a Munich Urtyp (old style) lager. We begin the brewing process with custom kilned imported Munich malt. Red Oak is then is the hopped with Spalt Noble hops imported from Bavaria, the oldest hop growing region in the world. Before fermentation we add a yeast strain from Weihenstehpen, the oldest brewery in the world, founded before 1040 AD. Weeks of aging gives Red Oak the smooth taste its known for.

Slightly hazy amber colour. Thin head. Malty, caramelly nose is fairly straightforward. Lightly toasty accent to a largely caramelly palate. Clean but simple.

Draft. Pours a dark reddish brown color. The Aroma is a nice malt one, with notes of sweetness to it. Flavor is actually a lot more refreshing than the ratings would indicate. I’d take this over other macros any day if I was in Greensboro.

On draught at the Cherry St. Bar (Adam's Mark hotel) in Winston-Salem, NC. The beer is a solid amber color with a medium light beige head. Thin lacing. The aroma is mostly caramel and vinegar. Medium body, and I had trouble making my way through the entire glass because of the sour aspect. I am not sure if it was an old sample or what. If so they should do a better job of making sure establishments selling their beers have fresh ones, as it appears this is an ongoing issue. There was some malt in the flavor thankfully saving this from being a drain pour. The finish was malty and still a little sour. This should have been better.
