Roll out the Barrel: Narragansett Bohemian Pils is a craft offering joining the flagship Lager and Light in the year-round line-up, which is complemented by seasonal craft offerings and limited-edition releases. Narragansett Bohemian Pils is available in six packs of 16-ounce cans and on draft. The beer contains 5.2% ABV and 30 IBUs (International Bitterness Units).

Quality Supreme: The Narragansett Bohemian Pils was styled after the Narragansett Imperial Bohemian Pilsner, a limited edition offering in the brand’s Private Stock series, released earlier in 2013. Brewed under the supervision of award-winning Brewmaster Sean Larkin, the Pils is filtered for a flavorful, sessionable beer experience. Winner of a gold medal in the Pilsner category at the 2013 World Beer Championships.

Taste & Enjoy: A flavorful yet easy-drinking, refreshing beer; this brew features the nuanced flavor of Pale malt, Pilsner malt, Wheat malt and Cara Blonde malt up front, balanced with the bitterness of Northern Brewer and Hallertau hops. Tons of flavor and yet still highly drinkable.

The History: Honoring the long-standing tradition of lager brewing established by the original German founders, Narragansett chose a lager-style beer to expand our year-round craft offerings. While many craft breweries today are focused on ale-style beers, lager continues to be ‘Gansett’s signature style, as seen in the Marzen-style Fest, Helles Bock and flagship offerings Lager and Light. The packaging and style were inspired by the Pilsner style beer that was produced by ‘Gansett in the early 1900’s.

On tap at brewery. Brassy gold pour. Creamy white ring. Bready malt aroma hints at herbal hops. Flavor is sweet malt and light herbal hops. Clean and smooth.

Poured into a lager glass, the appearance was a murky copper color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that held for a little bit and fell off at a good pace. Light stringy lace.
The aroma had some light lemon rind bitterness playing with a little bit of hop spice and then delicate biscuit/bready malt base playing tightly to signature a fine blend all around.
The flavor guided all of the previously mentioned aromatics together finely tuning the sweet to the spicy fairly nice. Aftertaste was moderately towards the biscuits and lemon. Finish was semi-smooth with a little bit of spice.
The palate was between light and medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good as projected.
Overall, I didn’t mind this for me, but I did seem to think there was a bit more lemon than expected for the style.

New Beer Distributors, NYC can ($2ish): Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is light fruitiness, one hops, and mostly malt. Taste is not really either a czech or a german pils. It kind of falls outside. Definitely a step above pale lager. Not bad though. Nothing off in this.

16 oz can, thanks Drake! Rhode Island tick. Aroma is dough, cooked vegetables, orange candy circus peanuts. Pours nearly clear golden with a nice fluffy white head with great retention; leaves groovy patterns of lace. Taste is sweet and malty with faint grassy hop character and bitterness in the finish. Creamy mouthfeel, medium body. Too sweet and malty for me.

16 oz pounder can. Mostly clear gold in color with some lasting head in a lager glass. Aroma is straw, cereal grain and mild herbal hops.

Body is lighter yet correct for the style. Flavor shows the Pilsner malt, light herbal hops without much bitterness. Very fast fading bitterness after the sip. Grainy aftertaste. All in all, pretty much what it should be.

16 ounce can from Greenlife Grocery, Asheville. Pours golden with fine floating particles. Large frothy white head, good head retention and lacing. Aroma of doughy malt, grassy hops and a bit of apple. The taste is bready malt, apple, snappy grassy hops, mild notes of apple and caramel. Medium bodied, good balance, moderate lingering bitterness, crisp.
