Real Ale has to be one of the few domestic brewers still putting a year-round beer into a 22 oz bottle. One of those is Blakkr that I found fairly recently at The Cellar in Odessa with the label saying the beer was bottled on Aug 30 2022. Receiving the pour this evening will be a snifter from Great Heights. I determine a brown-going-to-black body topped by a moderate skim of medium tan foam. The nose is heavy with pine followed by malt and an indication of citrus. A drink gives me pine resin, burnt toast, malt, grapefruit and earth. Plenty hoppy and plenty bitter and thick. Mighty good in the style.

1 October 2022. At Texas Craft Beer Festival. Shared with the lovely Anke!
A: hazy dark brown-black, stable, foamy, beige head.
A: burnt blackberry, tobacco, mango, cashew.
T: sweet mango, blackberry, toast & nuts.
F: herbal hops, resin, grapefruit peel & tobacco.
P: medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation.
Not very refined aromawise but good BIPA nonetheless.

12 oz. can, bought @ de Bierkoning, enjoyed at home. Canned 04/02/14, so just over a year old. Black color. Dense, rocky light beige head. with some lacing. Aroma’s upon opening: strong resinous, when poured: still a lot of resin and roast, droppig, licorice. Retronasal it’s roast, wybertjes/zwart-wit, resin, alpha acid. Flavor is light sweet, roasted, droppy. Long finish with lots of roast, some ash, rather (earthy) bitter.

Can. Big thanks to Theydon Bois for bailing me out here and donating me a can. I drank this previously but mistakenly thought it was Surly and didn’t take notes! Cheers Colin! A black - brown beer with a good cream colour head. Smooth semi dry palate with mild fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, a little roast. Mild and semi dry malt cream. Hops are piney and spicy with mild skunk and a nice hit if sweetish tropical fruits. Traces of coffee and dark chocolate before a light semi dry finish. A rich and tasty CDA!

12 ounce can courtesy of jackl. Thanks! 5/29/14. Pours a near black color with a medium sized frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of berry, citrus, chocolate, a bit of crayon. The taste is chocolate, roast, nuts, citrus hops. Medium bodied, low carbonation, mild lingering bitterness. Solid.
