This complex, golden Belgian strong ale exhibits classic Trappist yeast notes, complimented by the addition of very modest amounts of rose hips and black peppercorns.

Ever so slightly hazy copper coloured body with some bright amber and orange highlights and a nice crisp tint along with a thick, three centimetre tall microfoamed tan head. Aroma of yeast, white peppercorn, coriander seed, light curacao, a touch of corn, alcohol and some very minor notes of both sour elements and some oak. Medium-bodied; Deep, super pungent flavour with quite a bit of bitterness, coupled with a large peppercorn flavour that hits strongest, followed by a light sweetness of full oranges and curacao, along with a deep earthy and almost too pungent alcohol note on the end. Aftertaste is quite complex with the malt and orange-based sugars the strongest, but the yeast complexities are there, along with some peppercorn and light spice notes. Overall, a nice and super rich beer with a lot of complexity that works relatively well, but not perfectly. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington, DC (Logan Circle, P Street) on 07-September-2014 for US$15,99 sampled at home in Washington after running a half marathon on 09-November-2014.

3oz pour at Max’s Belgian Fest 2014. Pours a clear gold with some thin, white head. Nose has peach, candy sugar, plum. Flavor has grain alcohol, peach, apricot, candy sugar, clove. Boozy finish. Solid.
