Sometimes the world shrinks. A brewer in Sweden has dinner with his singing cousin who, as it seams, knows a Belgian brewer. After a quick introduction the idea of a collaboration to celebrate the 10 year aniversary of the song group Kongero was born - and the rest is as we say history. Kongero is a continuously hopped super saison. Hops used are Magnum, Saaz, Hallertauer Tradition and Chinook.

Bottle at home. Almost hazy golden with head that’s almost white. Some spicy yeast, veggies, alcohol, sweet malts, light herbal notes, green leaves. Very ‘green’ with alcohol, bread and weird bitter dead yeast and vegetables. Medium sweet with lingering bad bitter finish. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. It’s like they brewed this at Berging. It’s tot totally horrible but I don’t like this.

Gott.

Unclear golden color with a fine white head. Decent lacing. Ok intensity in the aroma, but with some homebrew yeast notes. Medium (+) body and an average carbonation level. Pleasant acidity level and a decent dry ending. Yeast ( a bit unpleasant homebrew ish), fruity, herbal and some spiced notes.

0,33l bottle at home bought from Etre Gourmet. Vintage 2015. BB 02/2018. Amber lightly hazy colour, small white head. smells musty, citric, light cardboard, done sweetness, tobacco, chlorophyl, decent smell overall. Full body, dust carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of chlorophyll, grassy, peppery, tobacco, earthy. finishes very bitter with notes of chlorophyll, grass and peppery notes. Okish beer, but not a big fan overall, just drinkable.

A "continuously hopped saison" apparently intended to honour Swedish music band Kongero and made by Alvinne at the Jackdaw micro brewery, owned by the cousin of the one of the band members, if I understand correctly. Bottle opens with a lot of pressure, but no gushing. Thick and frothy, hops-enhanced, lightly lacing, medium thick, moussy head slowly dissipating here and there in the middle; warm ’old gold’ robe with orangey hue and lively fizz, gradually turning into a misty orange peach with sediment - I guess you could say that this looks very typically like a saison. Aroma of sweetbread, ripe pear, baked banana, peach, camomile and other field flowers, freshly grated ginger, old dry apple cake, fresh orange peel, bitterroot, straw, soap (the wheat I suppose), canned apricot, gin, white pepper, jute, damp hay. Fruity, estery, crisp and very fizzy onset, a tad overcarbonated even for this usually highly effervescent style, minerally and souring a bit, the typically ’Belgian’ impressions of gooseberry, unripe peach, a slight hint of banana and apple, sweetishness of residual white candi sugar but nothing cloying, ’natural’ sourish undercurrent bringing refreshment. Middle phase has ongoing fruitiness and spicy phenols (cloves) over a background of pleasantly bready and lightly caramelly malt sweetishness plus soft sourish ’wheatiness’, leading to a drying finish, juicy but hop bitter, a tad resinous and tonic water-like, floral and spicy, with yeast spiciness blending in well; a hint of warming, ’jenever’-like alcohol lurks in the very end but could have been a bit better hidden. In all, a pleasantly ’noble hopped’, old school saison, completely convincing as such both in looks and in flavor, crisp and earthy at the same time.
