Brewed in the Belgian Dubbel tradition, this year’s Coming Home Holiday Ale is big and bold, yet imminently drinkable. Coming Home 2013 features celebratory flavors of dark sugar and raisins and a spicy, dry finish. It was brewed with pale and brown malts plus special dark candi sugar. The sugar addition provides a sweet aroma and dark fruit flavors without the cloying thickness typical of all-malt brews. Coming Home 2013 was fermented with ale yeast from a Belgian Trappist monastery to add hints of nutmeg, clove and other holiday spices. At 7.5% ABV this is an ale to be savored, enjoyed with friends over a holiday meal or paired with flavorful cheeses.

bottle from HomeBrewStuff. This did not initially come off as an abbey dubbel, but some of the candy sweetness and Belgian yeast could form the foundation for this. Hints of winter spice evident to make it a holiday ale,

750 ml bottle, thanks brenn79! Aroma consists of toast, caramel. Pours slightly hazy orange with a medium off-white head that collapses after a minute. Taste is sweet and toasty, with a faint offnote of metal. Body seems a little thin for style. Good.

Bottle, picked up the Bozeman Co-op for $10. I like the new bottles, they are a huge improvement from the wax dipped swing-tops. Bright copper/orange pour with very little beige head. Startling clarity and few bubbles. **I was much ‘rougher’ pouring the second glass and it yielded a larger head with a rather translucent copper-orange color. A gentle aroma of spices, candy sugar, cloves, and yeast. Lightly floral and dry. The flavors come off as subdued; a malty, spicy and lightly spiced flavor. Soft feel, middle-weight body, maybe a bit on the light side. Light yeast and floral tingle in the end. Quite approachable. I would love to see this become a regular seasonal release if the price could come down a bit.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours amber with an off-white head. Light malty aroma with a spice hint. Med body - not really thick. Flavor is mildly spicy malt. Arguably some darkish fruit. Finishes a bit off dry. Something sweet floats in the finish.
