Golden Spike is rolling out this week, our brand-new West Coast IPA. Bold, hop-forward, and bursting with pine, grapefruit and lemon, thanks to a heavy hit of classic US hops.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours golden yellow with a small scummy off-white head and good lacing. ?The aroma is a bit thin – just hints of floral hops, citrus and melon. In the mouth it is fairly bitter but with a little underlying sweetness, and a zesty and creamy texture. Floral hops dominate the flavour, but there’s also lemon, pine resin and tropical fruit. Later on there are hints of spice and grass. Bitterness lasts into the dry finish. This is decent – hides its strength well.

Keg at The Wild Swan, London. It pours clear golden with a dense white head. The aroma is zingy, tangy, bitter - sweet, lemon sherbet, sweaty, pissy hops, grapefruit, pomelo and lemon cheesecake. The taste is crisp, dry, snappy, pleasing bitterness, pine needles, pithy, zesty, grapefruit, bitter peel, lemonade, slightly soapy, nip of alcohol and a clean malt base with a drying, zesty finish. Average body and moderate+ foamy carbonation. Decent west coaster.

Draft at Borough Beer House, Farnham. Clear gold. White head just skims the surface. Aroma has light bitterness but more obvious slightly sour tinned fruit. Underlying light bready malts. Flavourwise it's medium bitter. Resinous. Peppery. Sweet fruit with a sour tart edge. Underlying malts. Light. Thin to slick. Soft-fizzy carbonation Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Nice but not fantastic.

On tap at Thornbridge. Clear orange gold. Slim semi lacing white foam. Nose has sweet orange. Candied peel. Light resinous notes. Clean pale malt. Taste has some sweetness but is mostly fairly dry and zesty citrus bitter. Drinks easy. Nice bitterness to finish. Solid.
