Brewed to celebrate our five year anniversary, this was fermented with wild yeast harvested from Saanich Peninsula fruit. Full-bodied for a sour beer, with a rich, bracing currant base. Red as blood with bold notes of funky Brettanomyces, tempered by a year’s storage in a mix of French and American oak.

Bottle: Poured a deep blueish color ale with a light pinkish color head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of fresh blackberries notes is well balanced against the tart notes of the based beer. Taste is a well balanced mix of tart and funky notes with some fresh raspberries and a hint of residual sugar. Oak and vinous notes are minimal and not overly powerful. Body is quite full with good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Another very enjoyable wild ale from Driftwood.

Deep purple colour with a light purple head. Woody, fruity, curranty, lots of sugars, too. Balanced, there’s a vinegary element, but the black currant fruitiness is pretty strong. There is a lot of alcohol in the finish, but it has a lot of character.

2014-09-09, bottle at the Hog Shack, Steveston, Richmond, BC, 8-5-7-4-16=40
Dark blood color. In few words, this is a berry rich and vinous wonderful beer, with depth and balance, moderate acidity, very well brewed. Lightly astringent in the end.

Dark color, impenetrable, with generous strawberry-ice-cream head. Strong aroma of elderberry wine, some sourness, light ammonia. Good body strength; strong carbonation with smooth mouthfeel; berry flavor, sour without excess, but a bit too astringent, and quite bitter. Blueberry jam in the end.
Clumsy, but it’s really a new thing in this part of the world.

Pours a dark purple color. Mildly sour tart nose with just some beets. The mouth isn’t that tart. Kinda boring. Not nearly tart enough. Grapes finish, but really not that good.

Bottle - Slightly acidic and funky raspberry with a bit of wood. Maroon and a pinkish head. Sour raspberry, oak and very dry. There is an oddness and I think it is the barrel notes. Feb 2014 - With some age the flavors mellow and round out a bit more, but this is still not as good as some of their others.
