Better than the wine barrel version by a long shot. Pours dark murky brown with good head and lacing. Some raisin and some spice I can't identify. Light sweet finish with some caramel and smoke. Thick consistency. Tap at whole foods.

On draft at Whole Foods on Falls Church. Fragrant floral nose. Flavors if anise, cinnamon and cloves. Medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Crisp spicy finish.

Draft at Whole Foods Charlottesville, 12/22/13. Pours a hazy amber color with a medium sized frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of heavy spices, citrus, apple, nuts, caramel. The taste is apple, caramel, heavy clove and other spices, nuts. Medium bodied, boozy, lingering spice. Interesting.

Draft at Rustico - Alexandria. Poured a dark brown color with a medium sized, fluffy white head. Aroma is spices - cinnamon, gingerbread, lots of ginger notes. Flavor begins pleasant, but is too heavy on the ginger notes. Ginger heat, spice. Cinnamon sticks. If the ginger was removed, I bet it would be pretty good.

Rustico, Arlington tap: Pours murky dark brown with barely any head (on mine). Aroma is ginger, spice, toffee, Christmas. Taste is a little sweet. Very spicy. Ginger working well with the roasted malts. Alcohol is very well covered. Plenty of body, but still drinkable. Interesting to say the least.

32oz growler pours a thick brown with some thick beige. Nose has a ton of spice, spearmint, candy cane, clove, malt, licorice. Flavor is a little harsh, boozy, metal, anise, cinnamon. Tough, thick finish.
