Starr Hill’s Whiter Shade of Pale marries two bold beer styles: the Belgian Wit and the IPA. Two row and wheat malt provide a soft base beer for intense fruity and spicy esters of the unique Belgian yeast strain while enhancing the strong hop aroma. Whiter Shade is a refreshing IPA to enjoy during the summer.

Crisp, slightly hazy golden coloured body with a thinnish just off-white head. Aroma of light wheat, grass, a touch of hops and some light citrus sweetness - not much going on. Medium-bodied; Strong wheat and floral flavours at first with a touch of coriander seed and a more metallic and piney taste than I’d expect with a surprisingly big malt flavour that doesn’t show the ’white’ portion much. Aftertaste shows some subtle hops with a little grassy and herbal quality, but mainly a malty and sweet finish. Overall, a decent White IPA at best, but this is more like a traditional IPA than I’d expect, and not a great one, as well. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Harris Teeter in Arlington (Pentagon Row), Virginia on 07-July-2014 for US$7,99 sampled at home in Washington on 19-August-2015 a few hours after returning from South Africa to get a taste of what I was missing being in Africa...but this disappointed a bit.

22oz bottle pours a clear gold with some wispy white head. Nose has lemony tea, mild lime, mild some, a little tropical fruit. Flavor is sweet, floral, a bit tannic too, some tropical fruit, orange, tangerine. Clean finish. Decent.

Candied violets, strong honeysuckle, lilly bouquet. Clear amber, medium head. Flavor features abundant honeysuckle notes and lilles, perhaps a bit of brett. Bitter finish of lillies. Wow! Belgian style IPA from Starr Hill? Floral, balanced, and wonderful!

Split a 22oz bottle with some of my co-workers. Poured a nice mostly clear golden color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was nice citrus notes, bready yeast notes, coriander. Flavor was wheat notes, yeast, coriander. This was pretty solid.
