Draft @ Doherty’s East Ave Irish Pub. On 2 Feb 2013. Black color with nice thick tan foam sitting on the surface. Aroma is very burnt coffee grounds, bitter chocolate and a faint hop. I was told this was a low ABV stout, if that is so then it has nice flavor. Brunt malts, chocolate with caramel. The nitro pour does give it a nice creamy texture. Overall good but not amazing.

Nitro @ Denver location. Black appearance with a creamy, light brown head. Roasty dark malty, chocolate, lightly nutty, light espresso aroma. Soft, creamy mouth feel. Quite roasty, dark chocolate malty, somewhat bitter, espresso flavor. Ok.

On tap somewhere in Denver hanging with the New Belgium Denver crew. Pours a jet black with milky frothy head. tastes of leather, cola, coffee, burnt malt, maybe some pears. a comforting late night beer to ease me off all the gin and tonics I had been consuming.

Sample at Breckenridge Ball Park Brew Pub in Denver. The beer is an opaque dark brownish-black color with a medium thick and creamy tan head that recedes steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Doughy malt, chocolate and roasted notes in the nose. Medium, smooth body with flavors of sweet roasted malt, chocolate and mild coffee. The finish is short and roasty with a touch of coffee on the back end. Slightly above average overall.

On tap at flying saucer. Pours a very dark brown almost black with a large frothy tan head that lasts awhile leaving good sticky lacing. The aroma is a sweet roasted malt with chocolate and caramel. Medium mouthfeel with a strong coffee and roasted malt. Very rich with a smokey flavor and a nice lingering sweet finish. A very good stout from Breckenridge.

tap at Breckenridge brewpub in Denver - Pours very dark brown with a big tan head that laces heavily. It has a rich aroma of chocolate, coffee, and dark roast malt. The flavor is big on the coffee and dark roast malt with the bitter roast and maybe some hops lingering in the finish. It’s full bodied and quite good. It’s interesting how widely the ratings vary here and makes me wonder if the quality of some batches was lacking. This one is excellent though.

Bartender indicated this was the oatmeal stout on nitro. A dark stout with a thick resilient moka head. Aroma is more subdued than the OS, doughy and pleasant. In mouth, a silky stout, very sustained chocolate bitterness, yet balanced. Medium bodied. On tap at Ballpark brewpub 24 Jan. 2009.
