The tradition of the Maibock beer began in the 14th century in Einbeck, Germany. This bock beer style was so popular the brewmaster was lured away by the Bavarians to replicate the style. Gordon Biersch Maibock is rich and full-bodied, emphasizing dark roasted, caramelized Munich malt and brewed in accordance to the German Purity Law of 1516.

Location: We have a bunch of these in the metro DC area, I think I've prob been to 3 of them, including the one in "Downtown Rockville" that I visit pretty often, I've had this one on tap there
Overall Impression: Haven't had this one for a long time, but my old rating had it placed here (no notes unfortunately) so we'll leave it that way...

First time I had this was in Miami and it was no good, like just about everything from that (now defunct) branch. Re-rate from Honolulu: Effervescent hazy blonde. Has a decent, bready pale malt aroma and flavour. Good balancing alcihol, nice example.

Tap at Virginia Beach location. Spring seasonal. Amber color, light, with a slight opaqueness to it. Aroma was that of hops, caramel, cherry, and a slight floral note to it. Flavor was nice, light, and a lot more alcohol than I figured it would have.

Tapl Light sweet malt aroma. Amber color with small head. Moderate malt flavor with a good astringent finish. This is much better style-wise than their Blonde Bock and the best of the six I tried. Nice.

Draught, Seattle Fully hazy orange-amber; little yellowish rim. Very bready, bit sour bread-like, citrussy acidity>. Sweet taste with only a citrus flavour, no acidity here. In the background some sweetness, but without the bready character. Bit burning MF; medium bodied, bit to the "smooth" side. Bit unidimensional, not very heartlifting. Mission Valley Dry, leafy, slighlty bready to toasted notes, bit of caramel. Bit flattish-sweet; with fruity notes not traceable in the nose. Again caramel. Quite slick, medium bodied, hint at alcohol retronasal. Decent Maibock. 6/4/6/3/ 13

On draught at the Columbus brewpub’s Maibock Tapping Party. Hazy light amber/orange color with a medium thick off-white head that lasts fairly well. Earthy malt and floral hops aroma. Medium-bodied with a fairly bitter character. Flavors of malt, grain and fruit are counterbalanced by an indistinct bitterness. The finish is fruity and still bitter. Not too bad really, just needs better balance.
