500ml bottle from the brewpub. Dark, hazy ruby/brown pour, small beige head. Roasted cocoa malts, sweet nuttiness and light pine hops.
Solid mouth feel, good carb. Solid pine bitterness, good nutty matls. A great brown ale!

Bottle: Poured a medium brown color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt with light citrus notes is quite pleasant. Taste is also dominated by caramelized malt with light citrus notes. Light nutty notes are also discernable. Body is light with good carbonation. Good drinkability with just the right amount of complexity. Nicely done for the style.

Rated on June 7th, 2014. Pours dark brown with a nice beige foam head. Aroma improves while the beer warms, has roast chocolate, toffee and has a good hop bite. Taste has several levels. The first sip is hop-bitter and nicely carbonated, then it evolves into nice long roast flavour. Excellent balance, long bitter chocolate aftertaste. Truly enjoyable.

Deep mahogany color. Very deep chocolate malt, woody character, with a touch of tobacco leaf notes. The mouth is very malty, med full bodied, rich and characterful. The wood and chocolate malt stand above the hops. Big woody chocolate finish. Excellent example of the style. Another winner from Bellwoods.

The last beer of my recent run to Bellwoods, which resulted in discovering some very nice beers. Didn’t expect the hoppy IPA-ness of this one. Pours a dark opaque brown with a finger of tan head. Nose of this guy is being taken over by piney hops. The taste is cereal, but mostly HOPS (pine, floral). The hops bitterness lingers, but isn’t unpleasant. Not a bad beer but the hops supersedes the brown ale characteristics.

Bottle from the brewery. Pours a deep hazy brown with a generous tan head that fades slowly. Nose is roasted malt and chocolate with a big helping of pine. Flavour is light sweet chocolate with some coffee but nicely bitter like a black IPA rather than a brown ale. Medium palate with average carbonation and long dry bitter finish. Enjoyed this.
