Old Chico Brand Pale Bock is a beer of legend. Once a brewery-only treat, it was so coveted that we heard tales of folks traveling hundreds of miles to get it. Golden and robust, Pale Bock is back from hiatus. We’re proud to reintroduce this full-bodied local lager, the perfect beer for the coming of spring in Northern California.

Bottled (thanks to either Degarth or Stoutlover72, I forgot whom I got this from...). I managed to break the neck of the bottle by mistake while digging in my beer cellar... Hazy orange golden colour with mediumsized white head, with some yeast still on the bottom of the bottle. Aroma is sweet malts, US flowery hops, some fresh oranges and slight alcoholic notes. Flavour is fruity and flowery hoppy, grassy, oranges and also some slightly yeasty notes also. Quite nectary and hopped aftertaste. I wouldn’t recognize this a pale bock if I had to try it as a "blind rating".

Draft, GBBF 2006. A golden beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet malty with metallic notes of alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel and quite fruity notes - especially oranges, as well as metallic notes of alcohol. Not the best Bock I’ve had - too simple.

(On tap - Toronado) Clear, pilsener golden with a creamy, white head leaving laces. Clean, malty nose. Medium body with clean pale malts, some sweetness and a dry but not overly bitter finish. A very clean and classical Heller Bock. 250307

250ml draught at The Rake, Borough Market (16.09.2006). Goden body with missing head. Fresh and fruity aroma. Flavour is fruity with notes of hops, yeast and some supporting malts. Crispated. A good thirst quencher on a warn day in London. Very relaxing outdoor seating at the Rake (great place and friendly staff).

Cask@GBBF, 2006. Golden beer with a fizzy head. The aroma is strong, toxic and vinous, and the flavour is rich, slightly yeasty, tangy and sour. Overall a reasonable light coloured rich beer.

(Draught at GBBF, London, 2 Aug) Colour is golden yellow with small head. Nose is fruity and sweet with tropical fruit (pineapple, apricot). Same goes for the taste: fruity, sweet with tropical fruit (mango, pineapple). Full body, malty sweet finish. Tasty, but to be honest way too sweet for me.

Draught at GBBF 2006. Gold colour with thickish lasting off white head. Niceish creamy hop aroma. Bit of expected alcohol from a bock. It’s ok, but not the best of the SN range.

Draft. Golden color with a nice big white head. Biscuity malt aroma and flavor. Some spiciness. Nicely balanced. Very drinkable.

Golden colour with a light sparkle. Big, clean bready malt aroma. Full body, light toastiness and more big bready flavours. Long and very well-balanced. A rival to Hofbrauhaus Maibock.
