Clear caramel amber colour, white dissipating head. Aroma of caramel, oak, whisky, vanilla, malts. Sweet malty flavour, caramel, wood, vanilla. Sweet, sticky finish, whisky, some ash and smoke comes through, and lingers. Nice!

Tap @ Arendsnest. Clear amber/orange color. Small off white head. Aroma’s: sweet, fruitcandy, maybe a hint of wood? Flavor is sweet, alcohol, fruit. Rather strong alcohol feel. Medium bodied. Finishes a bit ashy, charred, strangely. Either this was accidentally the regular Quadrupel (of which I’m not a fan), or it was very disappointing.

On tap at In de Wildeman, Amsterdam. Clear caramel pour with a thin off-white head. Notes of scotch whiskey, cherry liquor, bananas, caramel, light peat, smoke, some herbal spiciness. Very nice barrel-ageing, the scotch barrel toning down the sweetness of the base beer quite a bit.

Draft at De Paas. Clear amber with a cream head. Aroma of banana, soft oak, candy, light whiskey notes, a light touch of smoky peatiness and some sweet overripe dark fruit. Flavour is light heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Tap at De Paas. Almost clear dark amber with creamy cream colored head. Raisins, sweet malts, figs, vanilla, light bitter herbs, a touch of alcoholic whisky, dried apple, some vanilla. Quite sweet with some alcoholic bitterness. Over medium bodied. Quite balanced, the barrel notes are quite subtle. Some Dutch brewers who age RIS on Scotch barrels should take notice!

Draught @ La Trappe. Beautiful red amber color, medium sized lightly off-white head that lasts for a long time. Aroma is malts, a bit sweet, soft whiskey notes. Taste malts, sweetish, soft whiskey notes initially, but definitely some smoke and peat, light brown candy sugar. Suitable medium body, soft carbonation. Nice but the smoke and peaty notes don’t appeal to me.
