8/10
Smooth, slightly roasty and ashy with some grassy hops, pine, herbal notes, hints of licorice and bitterness. Pretty soft and easy going, feels more like a Cascadian Dark Ale than a black IPA. Pretty crushable though

Canned 4/24/26, drunk 7/1/26. Thanks to tfontana for the can!
Roasty, but tending chocolatey and gaining some "sweetness" so that it's not just harsh roast. Classic BIPA hops complementing things nicely with a lightly juicy, christmasy character. Delicate, almost, with no heavy resin/pith/pine, nor alcohol. 7% is a nice size for this style, IMHO.
Rich, lightly roasty, but with ample base malt and the christmasy hop character adding plentiful sprucey, juicy, piney spice and moderate, balancing bitterness. Easy to get too much acidity in this style between C-hop and roast, but Fidens deftly avoids and the beer comes out shockingly lighthearted (yet very flavorful) and very drinkable and balanced.

Can (4/24/26) from the brewery. Opaque, dark brown, nice sparkle, ample head with good retention and nice lacing. Aroma is strong roasted malt over pine. Taste follows aroma. Smooth, frothy texture, average carbonation, finish as taste. Nice combo of roasted malt and piney bitterness. Quality black IPA.

16 oz can in a trade with tfontana. Thank you Tom !
Aroma of shows bolder pine, chocolate, roasted malts. The pine is strong with some cooking herbs. Roasted malt is just enough So I do not detect any ash or char. Also shows mellow citrus. Decent bitterness for the style. Good mouthfeel. Exceptional!

Pours a dark, cola-brown/black, with big tan head. Aroma is roasted grain, pine, citrus. Flavors follow, with some burnt toast in the mix as well. Mouthfeel is smooth. Fairly strong hop presence in the finish. This is a good black IPA.
