You might say, a great beer is man’s other best friend. So when we made this German-style pilsner, it just made sense to name it after the brewery’s dog, Hans — our owner’s German Shorthair Pointer. Inspired by the pilsner beers of Northern Germany, Hans is crisp, brightly hoppy and full of flavor. At 50 IBUs and featuring Tettnang hops, it’s even hoppier than many pale ales. The German malt helps create a nice pale golden color and provides the perfect companion to the hops.

Draught from esquire tavern. Golden pour. Pretty nice whiff of grains and some nice pilsner hops. Good.

Dfw Saucer, 2/15/23. Clear, bright brass. Small, poorly-retained, white head. More of an American lager nose than a European pils. Somewhat cerealish, harsh, paper machee, apple. Not great! Some herbal and peppery hops, malty, at least, not thin. Kind of biscuity. Lots of sourdough. Better flavor than the nose suggests. Definitely some great mashing and fermentation but just screams way too short lagering time.

Pours gold into a shaker. Bright white head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Cracker and hay aromas. Soft with meadow and hay front to back. Dry earth finish.

12 oz. can from HEB, Boerne, TX. Pours a clear light yellow color with a large white head and excellent retention. Lots of spots of lacing. Pilsner and hops aroma. Fairly sharp pilsner malt flavor with a light bitter hops finish. Crisp mouthfeel. Light body. A little hoppy for my tastes but a good example of the style.
