Dark and clear , foamy beige head. initial sour aroma had me thinking the bottle was skunked. It is just the nature of, and adds to the character of the beer. Some molasses on the nose, but chocolate on the taste. Complex, as aroma is different from taste, but overall, well executed.

Bottle at home - 05/08/12. Pours a rich mid brown/dark copper colour with a good half finger of off white head. Malts and toffee on the nose with a faint whiff of spice. Tastes of dark dried fruits - figs/prunes a little burnt sugar, toffee/caramel and maybe nutmeg? Good mouthfeel to this beer with just the right level of carbonation.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 26 Nov 2011) Dark brown colour with hints of ruby. Frothy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark bread, roasted malt, nuts, coffee and chocolate. Malty, roasted taste with dark bread, caramel, crisp-bread, raisin, biscuits and a slightly bitter-sweet finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Well balanced and quite tasty. Nice one.

Picked up this half liter bottle at AZ Wine for 75¢. It pours clear amber with tan head. The aroma is vanilla, cinnamon, molasses and a bit of dark roasted coffee ground dust around the edges. The taste offers up semi sweet roasted malts, a thin layer of molasses and vanilla. It stays sort of roasty with malts mixing with molasses into the finish. Nice brew and great price! Go to AZ Wine.

Bottle at the Euston Tap with Nick. Clear ruby pour with a light beige head. Light fruits and cocoa on the nose. Light to medium sweet, good cocoa character. Medium in body with fluffy carbonation. Mild roast in the finish, subtle sugars, modest ripe fruits. Pretty decent.

Cask-conditioned at the Sussex beer festival, Seven Stars, Bristol 6/1/11. Deep, ruddy brown with a generous off-white head. Aroma of caramel and slightly sour fruit, with a touch of wood. Flavour started sweet, with some earthy malts, more fruit and a dryish finish. Good.
