Pre Bamberg bash tasting at Colin’s house with Mr Bois and James. Thanks Colin. Hazy amber beer, small pale cream coloured head. Light crispy palate, mild minerals. Smooth dry malt, sweetish caramel. Mild cinnamon led spices. Light dry finish. Fine.

Draft at Beer Run, 12/5/13. Pours a clear dark red color with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of strong spices, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, and caramel malts. The taste is toasted caramel malts, citrus, mulling spices. Medium bodied, slight lingering spice.

Cellar cleaning the old fashioned way. Pours a clear ruby color with a medium white head. A big nutty and spicy nose. Smooth caramel, big spices, nutmeg especially, some orange peel, light toffee. Good. Just not a style I want too much of. A 750 is tough.

Crisp amber coloured body with a large tan head. Aroma of light spices, caramel, toffee, earth, nuts and a bit of malt. Medium-bodied; Strong alcohol flavour with some very nice spices and herbal notes, a hint of toffee and a good complex pit fruit and grape finish. Aftertaste shows a good complex flavour with pit fruits, toffee, alcohol and a touch of light hops. Overall, a very nice beer for the season with a good complexity and some mellow sweetness, while showing a lot of alcohol. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in New York (Bowery location), New York on 25-November-2011 for US$7.99 sampled at my hockey Christmas party on 21-December-2011.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Buy Rite, 1/9/13, 2012 Edition

Aroma: The nose is fairly sweet, with lots of spice (cinnamon, nutmeg, etc.), and some bread
Appearance: It pours a mahogany color with a large, frothy beige head and streaks of lace
Flavor: The taste is all about the spice too, with lots of bread, much like a spice Christmas cake
Palate: The body starts medium, it is overly carbonation, and really thins out in the mid-end palate
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty decent Christmas spice beer, but that is a lot of spice. Add that to the carbonation and the thin finish, and I had a few issues with this one that kept me from truly enjoying it.

12 ounce can. 2012 vintage. Deep amber red color topped by a rocky beige head. Lioght toasted malt aroma with lots of Xmas spices, including cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. Flavor is malty with lots of spices. Not a lot of depth, just a sh*t-load of holiday spices. Medicinal bitter hop finish.

On tap at Stags Head. Pours a dark orangey brown. Tastes off all spice, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, some malt. Really quite pleasant winter ale.

Sample at the Columbus Ratebeer gathering at ogglethorp’s 11/20/08: After several people and tools are involved in removing the cork, the beer pours a deep reddish-amber color with a thick and creamy beige head that recedes slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of spice cookies and a touch of malt. Medium-bodied with a spice rack flavor profile, and low levels of malt and hops underneath. The finish is cinnamon and ginger with a short aftertaste. A decent beer, but kind of a one-trick reindeer.
