Bottle from Wilmington, consumed on a porch at night: pours mahogany wit off white head. Aroma is dark fruit, yeast. Taste is somewhat sweet, loads of fruitiness, some light bitterness. Good.

Sampled from a 750 ml corked brown bottle this beer poured a murky dark brown color with a medium sized foamy tan head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was toffee, bread dough, cherry and raisin. The flavor was bitter and somewhat astringent with toffee, wood, bread crust, pear, raisin and a bit of alcohol. Medium length finish. Medium body. Solid but uninspired.

Dark and fruity, but a little light bodied. Prunes, raisins, a hint of anise and coriander. Flat and sticky finish.

Pours a reddish brown appearance with off white head. Heavy banana nut bread with some brown sugar and a bit of apple. Pretty good carbonation. Moderate sweetness. Banana and apple in the flavor is kind of nice with some caramel. Pretty dang good.

4 oz sample at Iron Hill Maple Shade, New Jersey. The pour is a hazed golden copper with a light tan head. The aroma is dark fruit and Belgian candi / brown sugar. The taste is the fruit and Belgian yeast, mixed with a nice lightly roasty malt flavor. The palate is medium bodied, bright active carbonation, the Belgian yeast, plum, raisin and a hint of booze in the finish. Nice Dubbel, the roast gave it a unique character. This and the Black Tie were the class of the session.

At the lancaster pub. First off, taste is much less refined than a real dubbel from the old country. More like an an american wannah be which I guess it is. Does have some manners but it does not hide its alky personality well. TRather strong overall impressions. Quite dark brown in looks. Has a volatile perfumay aroma. Some co2. Yes, need more manners. Needs to go to the old country to learn more about waha dubbel is all about.

From bottle, blind tasting at Papsoes - beer no 1. Pours hazy orange/brown with a diminished head. Alcohol and dried fruity aroma, solid malt base and medium dry. Flavour is bit dead. Has some malt and a slice of malt. Some oldish drid fruit and a rising bitterness. Slight alcohol heavy and malty finish.

2007-11-02, Papsoe Blind Tasting, corked bottle
Cloudy amber color. Malt aroma, sweet, a bit fruity (plums). The body is quite unsubstantial, with some caramel flavor and not much more going on. Short final. Not interesting.
