Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish.

3L bottle. Holds up well for being 20 years old. This is really good. Smooth, slight balsamic. Showing a bit of age, but what do you expect after 20 years? Not re-rating this one as I've already rated it before, but wanted to note this for historical purposes. Just noting this here. Thanks Eugene for sharing this!

11.2 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass; bottled in 2006. Pours fairly clear red orange color with a small foamy off white head that reduces to nothing pretty quickly. Expected for a beer of this magnitude. A decent amount of carbonation streaming up. Aromas of huge caramel, molasses, toffee, biscuit, raisin, plum, vanilla, toasted grain, light herbal, wood, and a touch of alcohol. Nice and well balanced aromas with good strength. Taste of big caramel, toffee, biscuit, raisin, molasses, plum, vanilla, wood, and slight herbal. Slight herbal spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, molasses, vanilla, raisin, biscuit, and herbal on the finish for a while. Great balance of flavors with nice complexity; and no cloying sweetness at all. Light carbonation and full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and thick mouthfeel that is fantastic. Alcohol is extremely well hidden at 14%, with almost no warming at all. Extremely smooth to sip on. Overall this is a delicious doppelbock at its current age. Big flavor and balance; and very smooth to sip on, with the alcohol level extremely well hidden.

2006 bottle courtesy of brad, thanks! Light and very clear amber, no head or lacing. Aroma of caramel, similar taste. Pretty straightforward.

Bottle (2006). Pours a reddish brown with little head. Aromas are an interesting enough mix of wine grapes (or ice/harvest wine), brown sugar, maple syrup and general sweet stickiness. Flavor is pretty sweet, too. Lots of brown sugar and maple syrup with a holy wallop of alcohol that warms and burns as it goes down. Almost a port like alcohol and sweetness to this, which makes it pretty decent, but a little over the top. Heck... this bottle has only three years on it, which is pretty good as far as my patience goes. Can’t wait to try the 2005 in my cellar.

2006 bottle. Pours with a small white head that quickly turns to a ring. Caramel clear colored body. Aroma of dried fruits and candi sugar. Taste is very sweet with some copper in the aftertaste. Syrupy, light carbonation, some alcohol warming, different. Bottle claims "the strongest lager beer in the world", but it doesn’t taste quite as strong as 14%. Is this really a dopplebock?

Bottle 2006 vintage. pours out a nice clear amber/copper topped with almost no head. Very sweet aroma of malt and pit fruit. You can tast the 14% in this one. Not bad overall.
