A brewhouse favourite, this beer was brewed for the first time in our tiny pilot premises in Stoke Newington, hence the name. Brown ale is making a welcome comeback and this is our take on the style. A juicy but light malt backbone gives plenty of support to the generous hops. We love drinking this one.

Bottled, Gyle 131 07.06.13, large sample. Clear ruby color, short brown head. Aroma of grassy and citrussy hop, roasted malts, some chocolate, hint of biscuit, some blackcurrant. Medium bitter, slight sweet. Bit too high on carbonation. Quite hoppy version of a brown ale. The citrussy hops combine quite well in the aroma with the roasted and chocolatey malts. In taste it’s a bit too dry and too high on carbonation, which makes the bitterness from malts as well as hops a bit sharpish.

330ml bottle, 5.1 % ABV, picked up at Sourced Market., St Pancras. Coal black body, unclear. Tiny beige head leaving dotted spots to the glass. Earthy malts to the nose, semi-sweet. Chocolate, nuts, anise, and even a touch of caramel, in fine harmony to the taste buds. Slightly roasted bitter aftertaste. Ashy dry. Fine bodied. Likable version of the style (shared with Richard and Stefan at the Campus hotel, University of Leeds 01.07.2013).

33 cl bottle @ oh6gdx. Bottled 29.01.2013, BBE 29.06.2013
Somewhat hoppy aroma with nuts, gooseberry bush and some chocolate. Flavour is also rather hoppy with coffee notes, nuts, some gooseberry bush and hints of chocolate. I like my brown ales less hoppy.

2013 Bottle, thanks to Rilester for picking this up way out east, split at the pre stag tasting in the ’Sham, 20/06/13. Murky dark mahogony brown with a light tan head that clears to a film. Nose is dark malts, tangy fruits, bitter orange marmalade. Taste carries light hops, dark tropical fruits, orange pith, malt, biscuit, minerals. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, hop bitterness in the finish. Decent stuff.
