Third and final 500ml bottle from a gift pack that I found for £5:00 earlier this year at a garden centre. The bottle was opened just out of date on 15th Nov 2014 during my pre-Christmas Christmas beer tasting evening. Poured into an Abbot Ale badged glass tankard and shared with no one, deep dark brown, almost black, on top an uneven tanned foam blanket. Dark, semi-bitter malts rule the nose and initial taste, some vanilla and liquorice as it warms in the tankard. Starts off dry with the aforementioned bitterness, but it mellows as the vanilla and liquorice flavours begin the show themselves. Nice body feel and again a pleasant surprise overall, just like to two other beers in the cut price pack I bought.

50cl bottle from Longacres, Windlesham. Coke coloured with a brief appearance from a tan head; roasted malt aroma; sweet chocolate malt taste with a touch of smoke; and a dry, lightly bitter, biscuity finish.

500ml bottle - third in the gift set, pitch black body, thin white head. Not too much in the nose, but the usual coffee, roast malts and bit of smoke make it not too unpleasant. The first taste has similar, a bit of bitter chocolate extra, very pleasant palate. Nice drink, and I must say far from the sub-par Christmas fare I’ve been suffering this year.
