Bold flavours of toffee, burnt caramel, coffee and chocolate characterise this dark ale. Brewed with 5 malts in 18th century London-style.

The 20th rating of this bad boy. Draft courtesyof nate2g, thanks! Dark amber color, only slightly darker than the amber ale we had along with it. Aroma is roasty. Taste is watery coffee and subtle licorice.

Light brown colour. Aroma has a touch of cocoa but otherwise doesn’t have much character. Bland and watery, with only a hint of cocoa for dark malt character

Bottle big thanks to Wigman DW, split on split on the 300kph tasting on Train 9116 to Brussels, 26/04/13. Very dark mahogony brown with a good sized tan head. Nose carries roast malt, oats, light chocolate. Taste comprises roast malt, chocolate, dark toffee, background hops. Medium bodied with fine carbonation, bitter roast in the finish. A very tasty porter for 4%!

Bottle. Dark brown with a coat of beige head. Mild toffee aroma with mocha. Smooth mouthfeel is a bit watery but has a little oiliness. Just singed toffee, coffee and chocolate in a barely sweet taste. Dryish finish has a little roasted malt, some grass and hint of coffee astringency (or maybe that’s the carbonation). Delicate and sessionable. Quite complex malt flavours but lacks just a little oomph. [6 3 7 2 12=3] Small bottle, 10C. Palate is more compelling this time- or is it just that I drank it cooler as instructed? Mocha lingers. Still begs for just a little more power, but pleasant enough.

Pours dark copper with a small head.Nose is made up of soft roasted malt with hints of dark chocolate and nuts. Quite faint.Flavours are equally light on, showing sweet crystal malt with soft roasted character later. Possibly the porter with the least amount of roasted malt I’ve ever tasted.Body is watery to excess.
