Liberty’s version of the quintessential Kiwi thirst quencher pairs biscuity malts with a good dose of fruity flavour via US hops. But unlike most hoppy heavy hitters, it won’t whack you over the fence for a 6 and out. Making it oh so easy to knock back a couple more before you have to sort the BBQ.

330ml can from School of Animals, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a mostly clear medium amber colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is toffee caramel malt. The flavour is moderate bitter, light sweet, with a crisp, sweet caramel, herbal, light citrus, woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

On tap at Brewers Co-op, Auckland. Golden amber beer with a thin creamy white head. Zero carbonation. Nose is soft malt and tropical fruit. Super easy drinking, slight fizz. Nicely complex finish featuring bitter lemon, mint, and earthy hops. Superior quaffer.

On tap at whammy bar. Aroma is pine and a little bubblegum. Flavour is similar with perhaps a little grass. Fairly standard APA.

Bottle, 10C. Clear gold with a puffy white head. Aroma of passionfruit, lime, mandarins, biscuit. Quite sweet but floral and zesty hop notes are perhaps more prominent than expected. Doesn’t dry out a whole lot and bitterness is moderate. The malt side of things doesn’t do much for me except get in the way.

330ml bottle at Scotch Wine Bar, Blenheim. Floral nose. Pours clear amber, medium head. Unfortunately, the taste didn’t hold what the aroma promised: Slightly sweet, not much bitterness, still a bit floral and fresh though.
