Treated as an imperial red ale, this was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a semi-dark red almost brown sort of color with a nice looking sustaining finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated at a nice even pace. Messy foamy lace.
The aroma had a nice earthiness intermingling with some nuts, roasty and sweet, good amount of grassy and citrusy hops showing some bitterness. Clean caramel/toffee malts underneath.
The flavor yields to a smooth sweet maltiness foremost and then blends the earthiness, nuts, toast and the hops. Nice clean malty smooth aftertaste rolling into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionably smooth to almost smooth sipping quality about it. Good sturdy carbonation was felt. ABV felt good too.
Overall, nicely balanced imperial red ale well worthy of having again.

22oz bottle pours a clear, brick red with some spitty, white head. Nose is decent, malty, orange, pine, grapefruit, a little bread, caramel. Flavor is malty, lightly sweet, brown sugar, orange, lemon, some light kumquat. Dry finish. Simple but decent.

22 oz. bottle hand bottled on April 21, 2013. Purchased @ Top Shelf Brews. Dark red with amber highlights for color. The nose brings a light hops as well as a solid amount of caramel malt. The taste is caramel malt with notes of chocolate overlaid with some light hoppy notes. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. Malt and hops have a perfect balance. Quite drinkable and really sessionable. I could drink more and well worth a try.

Pours a deep reddish brown with a huge fluffy tan head that leaves much lace on the way down my glass. Smells of bread, caramel, and a hint of chocolate with enough citrus to provide some contrast. Slight sulfur and alcohol detracts but is faint enough that I can get over it. The flavor is pretty solid with a sweet caramel maltiness providing a nice base. Pine and citrus hops layered on top with a hint of chocolate and earth. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Nice red ale with a hoppy edge.
