Black Imperial India Pale Ale, spawned from west coast brewers who have no problem bending what we think about traditional ale styles, is dark, rich and extremely hoppy. Made from the finest Two Row barley, fresh Moab water, house yeast and lots of hops, it’s then fermented in American oak, dry hopped and bottle conditioned. The bottle conditioning, or secondary fermentation, provides carbonation. Expect a small amount of yeast in the bottle.
The Black Imperial Pale Ale with pair with nachos, buffalo chicken wings, gyro salad or wrap, smoked chicken salad sandwich and margarita chicken.
Store bottle upright, chill to 50°F - 55°F for serving in wide mouth glassware. It is important to allow this ale to warm in the glass; a fuller flavor will be yours to enjoy.

Bottle from the brewery. Hazy dark brown, stable, foamy, tan head. Aroma of grapefruit peel, prune, old toast, walnut, mango, coffee filter, cheese. Taste has sweetish mango & mandarin, toasty & nutty maltiness, some spicy notes. Peppery hoppy finish, bitter grapefruity, quite pithy, with warming vodka-like alcohol. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation. Decent but gives the impression that it's coarsely executed.

Caramel malty IPA, not much else to note, not bad but no standout flavors.

Bomber - hmm, well this is interesting - not really a black IPA - pour is dark ruby - thick off-white head - a lot of toasted coconut and vanilla in the nose imparted by the oak, along with some candied cherry, dough, chocolate liqueur - creamy mouthfeel - very smooth and drinkable for the abv - hops are fairly present in the flavor, but do not add as much bitterness as one would expect in the style - they add some citric character to the overall liqueur quality of the beer, so at times this reminds me of those chocolate oranges you can often buy around the holidays (my description makes this sound bad, but it’s actually quite good) - lightly toasty oak character late - there is moderate bitterness late - it’s earthy and drying, balancing out the sweet liqueur character - it may not be a black IPA by most people’s standards, but what it is is a darn tasty and interesting beer.

0.5 L bottle. Dark hazy, muddy brown, with a big, beige head, and thick lacing. The aroma is light chocolate, toffee, resin, and pine. The flavor is malty and sweet, with a good, mellow bitterness. Medium body, sticky, creamy, and a little astringent. Overall, this is a beautiful, nicely balanced beer.

Bottle - Toasted malts and earthy hops with a malt backbone. Super thick head and jet amber. Candy hops with a slight malt richness, as an IPA great, but as CDA doesn’t have the roasted malts I was looking for.

Big one quart swing top growler. Pours a hazy, deep garnet amber with some creamy, slightly off white head. Classic black IPA nose, if there is such a thing, dust, pine, some bread, a little orange, pine cone, soap. Flavor is crisp, pithy orange, light grapefruit rind, pine, dusty, a little dried wood. Medium bodied, dry finish.

Bottle thanks to Travlr! Poured a slightly dark brown color with a off-white head. Aroma was bitter, earthy hop notes, some sharp chocolate and creamy notes. As it warmed it got pretty good. Silky. Good!
