What if we gave an IPA a new identity and used some of our favorite West Coast hops, with their grapefruit, piney, & tropical fruit character, in a lager? The result is this boldly hoppy & and flavorful brew with the crisp smoothness of a lager. Cheers!

Nice, an India Pale Lager. Part of their Spring Thaw mixed pack. Rich golden colour with a frothy off-white head that stays very long, and creates thick foamy lacing. Beautiful full IPA Cascades hoppy nose with the typical grapefruit notes. The difference is in the taste. Pretty much the same, but much milder. Still, the grapefruits and pines are present. I really enjoyed this switch on the style, from ale to lager.

on tap at the vintage. typical ipa perfumy aroma. very little head. taste is rude ipa as expected. bitter green grapefruit rind comes to the forefront. not as perfumy as many ipa. long bitter finish, on style.

Gold pour with a very light haze - fairly effervescent body, with a frothy, well-sustained head - nose is pretty much all hops - a nice mix, but that cascade, citra and centennial come through the most - very American IPA in aroma - no lager character, but pleasant none-the-less - low carbonation - fairly creamy texture - at first, the flavor is much like the nose - all IPA, no lager - citrus, pine, the zesty character of the Nelson and th Zeus - light bodied and fairly crisp - very mild, but rich Munich character late - fairly crisp, almost crackery finish - not what I was expecting, but once I got past that, I found it to be a nice, sessionable hoppy brew.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, best before August 2013. Pours fairly crystal clear golden amber color with a 1 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange zest, tangerine, pineapple, floral, light pine, light bread, and floral earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of hop notes; a bit weak on strength. Taste of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange zest, orange rind, tangerine, pineapple, floral, light pine, light bread, and floral earthiness. Fair amount of floral citrus bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, pineapple, floral, light pine, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of hop flavors; with a moderate malt backbone and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and fairly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice hoppy lager. Great balance and complexity of hop flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Pours a clear orange gold with large frothy off white head that lasts awhile leaving sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a strong pine and grapefruit. Thin mouthfeel with a strong citrus and light hop with nice crisp finish. Easy to drink, a very good premium lager.

Well in some ways this is kinda like SABL that has been hammered with hops. It has the same smooth rounded malt profile of SABL, but a big resiny, catty, spicy hop nose and flavor profile. Fairly enjoyable but the hops were maybe a little on the harsh side, got a bit tiresome to drink after awhile.

Hop Devil Grill, NY tap ($7): Pours a golden color with a white head. Aroma is passion fruit, pine, and some citrusy stuff. Taste is pretty much the same. The hops are more flavorful and fruity than they are bitter. The body is light for easy chugging. I think SA successfully combined the elements of lager with those of an IPA.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a light rust orange with minimal head. Aroma of huge tropical citrus fruit. Taste is medium bitter. Citrus and tropical fruit with a hint of earthy pine. Medium bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Lively carbonation and a super long finish. Overall, very good. Somewhat unbalanced but the mix of flavors from the hops totally makes up for it.
