Armand’4 Herfst Oude Geuze is a blend of 1, 2 and 3 year old Lambic, brewed, aged, blended and bottled by Armand Debelder. This one-time and possibly the last bottling comes in a fancy Asti Spumante Champagne bottle. Armand only used Challenger hops in this brew. He’s in fact the only lambic-brewer to use Challenger hops to make his Geuze. 60 % malted barley, 40 % wheat, aged hops and water. Each season’s geuze has an unique and different blend.

Bottle split with JF at a Sue’s away mini tasting in the ’Sham, 11/03/14, from an IP trade at Borefts ’13. Hazed dark orange amber with a good sized off white head that retains well. Nose is sharp citric fruit, musty, horseblanket, funky, twangs, citric tinged straw, touch of dry rot. Taste comprises dank wood, Grandads shed, light acidic tinges, bitter lemon rind, ripe apple, funky, tarte grape skin. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, tarte citric licks in a drying close. Solid top draw gueuze, words don’t really do it justice!

Bottled, lot 02/04/2010 BB 2020, large sample. Slight hazy golden color, short head. Aroma has horseblanket and barnyard, funk, some spicy autumn leaves like stuff. Wonderfully complex, but all very balanced, not overpowering on tart or funky aroma’s. Soft sour in taste, hint of sweetness. Quite high on carbonation, but just perfect for the beer. It has been a while I had some of the other Armand’4s, but this one suits the moment perfectly.
